Fee-free apprenticeships in NSW from 1 July 2018

Under the NSW State Budget for 2018-2019, new apprenticeships in building and construction, plumbing and electrics will be fee-free from 1 July 2018.

Students no longer have to pay up to $3,000 to learn a trade under the new scheme – meaning no more upfront training costs for students or employers. The scheme is designed to encourage more people to learn a trade in order to help cover the current skills shortage in traditional trades and meet demand.

Reforms to home building laws

Major changes to home building laws in NSW commenced on 15 January 2015 aiming to reduce red tape, minimise disputes and appropriately protect consumers.

These changes impact both those in the building industry and those building or renovating their own home.
